Salviac

The main street unfurls its commerces as it goes down until it reaches the Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church (13th-15th century), this gothic vessel that surprises with its size and its lauze stone roof and which shelters a famous Treasure. It was an important stopping place that doubled up as a shelter for the pilgrims of Compostela. In the shade of the chevet, the bistro Chez les Filles opens its terrace where you can take a break before losing yourself in contemplation in the Barry garden, or strolling through the maze of silent alleys in the town centre which still retains a marked medieval character. But there is more to Salviac than its history. As the seat of the District Council, the town is distinguished by a number of successful initiatives: the leisure park, built around a geothermally heated swimming pool, a lively museum of agricultural and automotive heritage, a museum of old clocks, reminder of the watchmaking past, and a market. On Wednesday mornings, this brings together local farmers and craftsmen and women. You will find everything there, according to the season, from strawberries to truffles, and flavours that go beyond the specialities of the Lot, with world specialities. Salviac reaffirms itself around its streams, the Céou, the Pâques and the Ourajou, where millers and tanners used to work.
